six days modular foundation training

The Foundation course is taught in three modules and is aimed at teaching the basics that health professionals can integrate into their existing clinical work. We aim to ensure that by the end of the course you will feel competent to use your new skills effectively. The course teachers are all health care professionals, who regularly use hypnosis in their clinical practice. As a safe-guard for clients/patients, we will only train health care professionals.

All health professionals can benefit from learning effective ways to gain rapport, give suggestion, and teach patients tools, with which they can help themselves. The effects of inadvertent negative suggestions (NOCEBO effect) during consultations with health care professionals, when patients can be particularly susceptible, should not be underestimated. Learn the language of non-hypnotic positive suggestion in addition to the art of hypnosis.

Because BSCAH operates a branch system for its members' support, training courses are offered in several locations around the country. Whilst the tutors for these courses will vary they will all follow BSCAH´s standard format and core curriculum. Some of our courses are badged by universities, details of which appear as part of their course information. In areas where no courses are currently available, training may be arranged if a group of at least six health professionals express an interest in attending a Foundation training course.

BSCAH Core Curriculum 2018

As the BSCAH Foundation Course is highly practical, at least 30% of contact time will be supervised hypnosis practice, and background reading is encouraged.

History of hypnosis (brief)
Theories of hypnosis (brief look at current methodologies)
Hypnotisability, scales, categorisation and flexibility of approach (brief introduction)
Online therapy and hypnosis (brief?)

Managing abreaction
Selection and preparation of the patient
Rapport, communication, observation and feedback (include introduction to nocebo)
Two or three inductions and deepening (and the use of different levels of consciousness)
